Postnatal Yoga includes adaptation of Yoga poses, breathing exercises and relaxation techniques to give new moms new energy and help their body to recover from the physical exhaustion of labour or C-section as well as the stress of being a new mom.
Abdominal muscles have been stretched to their limit and need to regain their strength and pre-pregnancy shape, and the back and hips need to recover from the 9 months of weight gain, body change and resulting change in posture. Pelvic floor muscles needs strengthening whereas some postures will be targeted at releasing tension in shoulder and neck muscles. Postnatal Yoga can also help new moms to reconnect with their body and even battle postpartum depression.
Postnatal Yoga Zurich
Origin: Postnatal Yoga is not a tradition of Yoga in itself but is based on the fundaments of Yoga. It uses a selection of postures with or without adaptations, breathing and relaxation techniques safe to be practiced after giving birth and supporting the physical recovery of the new moms. It will also help balance their mental and emotional well-being.
Classes: The teacher will introduce soft recovery poses and adapt them on an individual basis where necessary. It is recommended to wait 6-8 weeks after delivery prior to resuming physical activity.
